Caney Creek, Lake Creek, Montgomery Girls Soccer Earn 20-5A Superlatives

There are tons of local accolades to go around at the conclusion of the District 20-5A 2021 girls soccer season.

The Caney Creek girls soccer team completed the 2021 season with a fifth-place finish, and unfortunately missed out on postseason play. Though, the team’s seniors Julie Mendoza (Midfielder) and Alyn Zamudio (Goalkeeper) were both honored as MVPs for their positions. In addition, Gretchen Kloes shared Coach of the Year honors with George Hourahan from Lake Creek. Each of them led their squads through an impressive season.

The Lions, led by Couch Hourahan, earned a trip to their postseason placement for the first time, after defeating Caney Creek in an incredible final game of the regular season. Junior Morgan McGee was named District Defensive MVP.

Montgomery placed second behind the champs, Kingwood Park, with junior Makenzie Griffith named as Offensive MVP.

Emma Yeager of Kingwood Park has been honored by winning District MVP, and Freshman Brynn Baldon was honored with the title of Newcomer of the Year.

The Panthers had five first team selections: Seniors Lori Do, Samantha Valadez, Cora Morgenroth, and Jordan Meyer as well as junior Kathleen Ortiz.

Four players from Montgomery were named to the first team. Ranee LeVasseur (senior) and Mable Pruter (junior), as well as Rori Prelli and Ashlee Stoltje (sophomores).

Porter also had four selections on the first squad with juniors Jasmine Marquez, Mary West, and Heidee Benitez and joining Katherine Speyerer (sophomore).

Lake Creek likewise had three of its own members listed among that elite group: Camryn Robbins and Taylor Hampton (both juniors) and Katelyn Denley (sophomore).

For Caney Creek, Montse Ramos and Elyn Zamudio (seniors) were both selected for the first team.

New Caney had Kathya Leija (senior), along Ammy Osorio (freshman).

Cleveland and Dayton were represented by seniors Yulizma Mota and Yaritza Serrano, on their respective top teams.

Montgomery and Kingwood Park both had four players, on the second team.
