Montgomery to Give 20% Tax Break on Homestead Property Taxes
July 30, 2021
If you are a homeowner in the city of Montgomery, you can plan to receive a 20% break on your property taxes for the upcoming fiscal year. The Montgomery City Council just adopted a resolution last week that established a new 20% homestead tax exemption. This record-breaking exemption is the highest allowed by state law and will affect 437 families in the area.
Though this exemption will result in nearly $90,000 in lost revenue for the city, Council Member Julie Davis argues that the city will make up for that up in sales tax. After taking a look at and discussing the figures, the city council ended up voting for unanimous approval of this exemption.
